Matthew Davey — Chief Executive Officer and Director
Mr. Davey has over 25 years of experience within the digital media, sports, entertainment, leisure and gaming ecosystems, as well as experience in the public sector. He is an experienced public company executive officer and board member. He has served in executive management positions across the gaming technology arena. Over the course of Mr. Davey’s career, he oversaw more than ten mergers and acquisitions and over $1.2 billion in debt and equity capital raised to support the companies he has led.
Most recently, Mr. Davey was Chief Executive Officer of SG Digital, the Digital Division of Scientific Games Corp. (“Scientific Games”) (Nasdaq: SGMS). SG Digital was established following the purchase by Scientific Games of NYX Gaming Group Limited (“NYX”) (formerly TSXV: NYX), where Mr. Davey served as Chief Executive Officer and Director. The NYX acquisition provided Scientific Games with a vehicle to significantly accelerate the scale and breadth of its existing digital gaming business, including the strategic expansion into sports betting. In his capacity as Chief Executive Officer of NYX, Mr. Davey developed and implemented a corporate strategy that generated strong revenue growth. Mr. Davey shaped company strategy to focus on digital gaming supplier platforms and content that provided various gaming operators with the underlying gaming and sports betting systems for their online gaming business. In 2014, Mr. Davey oversaw the initial public offering of NYX, and his experience in the digital media, sports, entertainment, leisure and gaming industries helped NYX recognize momentum as a public company. After the public offering, from 2014 to 2018, Mr. Davey oversaw seven acquisitions which helped establish NYX as one of the fastest growing global B2B real-money digital gaming and sports betting platforms. These acquisitions included:
• OpenBet: In 2016, NYX completed the $385 million acquisition of OpenBet. This was one of the more complex and transformative acquisitions that Mr. Davey oversaw at NYX. Through securing co-investments from William Hill (LSE: WMH), Sky Betting & Gaming and The Stars Group (formerly Nasdaq: TSG, TSX: TSGI), Mr. Davey was able to get the acquisition from Vitruvian Partners completed successfully, winning the deal against much larger and well capitalized competitors. By combining two established and proven B2B betting and gaming suppliers, NYX was well positioned to provide customers with exciting player-driven solutions across all major product verticals and distribution channels. This allowed NYX to become the leading B2B omni-channel sportsbook platform in the market and the supplier to over 300 gaming operators globally with an extensive library of desktop and mobile game titles, including more than 700 on NYX platforms and more than 2,000 on the OpenBet platform.
• Cryptologic/Chartwell: In 2015, NYX completed the $119 million acquisition of Cryptologic and Chartwell. The acquisition provided NYX with more than 400 titles of additional leading gaming content, a broader customer base, and direct exposure to PokerStars and Intercasino, part of the Gamesys Group (LSE: GYS) — two of the world’s largest online casino offerings.
• OnGame: In 2014, NYX completed the distressed acquisition of OnGame, a premier poker content, platform and service provider. This acquisition provided NYX with one of the best poker products in the industry, access to several regulated jurisdictions, and a valuable talent pool that was instrumental in the growth of NYX. The addition of OnGame further established a path for NYX to continue its growth in both European and U.S. markets.
These acquisitions, together with meaningful organic growth, increased NYX’s revenue from $24 million in 2014 to $184 million annualized in 2017. During that time, Mr. Davey helped build NYX to have over 200 customers in the global gaming industry and a team of 1,000 employees. Mr. Davey’s success at NYX ultimately led to its sale to Scientific Games for $631 million in 2018.
Mr. Davey joined Next Gen Gaming, the predecessor to NYX, in 2000 as the Vice President of Technology, was appointed as Executive Director in 2003 and named Chief Executive Officer in 2005. Prior to that, he was the Senior Consultant for Access Systems, a company that specializes in the provision of back-end software for licensed online casinos. Prior to joining Access, Mr. Davey worked for the Northern Territory Government specializing in matters pertaining to the internet and e-commerce along with roles in the Department of Racing and Gaming. Mr. Davey received a Bachelor of Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Northern Territory University, Australia (also known as Charles Darwin University).
Robin Chhabra — President
Mr. Chhabra has been at the forefront of corporate acquisition activity within the digital gaming landscape for over a decade. His prior experience includes leading corporate strategy, M&A, and business development at two of the global leaders in the digital gaming industry, The Stars Group (“TSG”) and William Hill, and a leading supplier, Inspired Gaming Group (Nasdaq: INSE). Mr. Chhabra served on the Group Executive Committees of each of these companies. From 2017 to May 2020, Mr. Chhabra served as Chief Corporate Development Officer at TSG and, from 2019 to August 2020, he also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Fox Bet, a leading U.S. online gaming business which is the product of a landmark partnership between TSG and FOX Sports, a transaction which he led. During that period, Mr. Chhabra led several transactions which transformed TSG into the largest publicly listed online gambling operator in the world by both revenue and market capitalization and one of the most diversified from a product and geographic perspective with revenues of over $2.5 billion. Mr. Chhabra’s M&A experience is extensive and covers multiple global geographies across the digital gaming value chain and includes the following:
• TSG/Flutter Entertainment Merger: In 2019, Mr. Chhabra led the TSG M&A team that was responsible for TSG’s $12.2 billion merger with Flutter Entertainment (LSE: FLTR). The merger between TSG and Flutter Entertainment is the largest transaction in the digital gaming industry to date. The combination created the largest publicly listed online gaming company with approximately 13 million active customers and leading product offerings, which include sports betting, online casino, fantasy sports and poker. The combined entity includes some of the world’s most iconic digital gaming brands such as Fanduel, Fox Bet, Sky Bet, PaddyPower, Betfair, PokerStars and SportsBet. TSG/Flutter Entertainment is one of the most geographically diverse digital gaming and media companies with leading positions in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany and Georgia.
• TSG/Sky Betting and Gaming (“SBG”): In 2018, Mr. Chhabra led the acquisition of SBG from CVC Capital Partners and Sky plc, Europe’s largest media company, in a transaction valued at $4.7 billion. At the time of the acquisition SBG was the largest mobile gambling operator in the United Kingdom and one of the fastest growing of the major operators having doubled its online market share in three years. The acquisition of SBG provided TSG with (a) greater revenue diversification, significantly enhanced expertise and exposure to sports betting just ahead of the judicial overturn of The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) by the U.S. Supreme Court, (b) a leading position within the United Kingdom, the world’s largest regulated online gaming market, (c) improved products and technology as a result of the addition of SBG’s innovative casino and sports book offerings and a portfolio of popular mobile apps, and (d) expertise in deeply integrating sports betting with leading sports media companies, positioning TSG to create more engaging content, deliver faster growth and decrease customer acquisition costs.
• William Hill (LSE: WMH): At William Hill, from 2010 to 2017, Mr. Chhabra served as Group Director of Strategy and Corporate Development where he led several transactions which contributed to William Hill’s transformation from a land-based gambling operator in the United Kingdom to a leading online-led international business. Mr. Chhabra led William Hill’s entry into the U.S. sports betting and online lottery markets with the acquisition of four businesses, including the simultaneous acquisitions of three U.S. sportsbooks, Cal Neva, American Wagering and Brandywine Bookmaking, in 2011 for an aggregate purchase price of $55 million. These businesses ultimately led William Hill to achieve a leading position in the U.S. sports betting market with a market share of 24% in 2019. Additionally, Mr. Chhabra played a key role in structuring William Hill’s successful joint venture with PlayTech Plc (LSE: PTEC) in 2008. The combined entity created one of the largest online gambling businesses in Europe at the time of its formation and led to William Hill’s buyout of Playtech’s interest for $637 million in 2013. Prior to the transaction, William Hill had struggled in its attempt to establish a strong online gaming platform and a meaningful presence outside the United Kingdom.
Mr. Chhabra has also successfully completed four transactions worth over $1.2 billion in Australia, the world’s second largest regulated online gambling market, and various partnerships in Asia. Additionally, he completed several technology and media related transactions, including William Hill’s investment in NYX, where he worked with Mr. Davey on NYX’s transformational acquisition of OpenBet.
Prior to working in the gaming sector, Mr. Chhabra was an equities analyst and a management consultant. Mr. Chhabra received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Mr. Matejevich led the transition effort to integrate a four-casino, $1.3 billion acquisition from Harrah’s Entertainment and Caesars Entertainment (Nasdaq: CZR). As Chief Operating Officer of Atlantic Club, he lobbied for and was successful in obtaining the first internet gaming legislation passed in the United States. [OC]So You Want To Read About Basketball, Eh? Here is one R/NBA user’s recommendation as to the best basketball books you can find.
I’ve been watching and loving basketball for a long time. My first word was ball, and my parents have a picture of me making my first basket on a little tykes hoop around age two. Until I was in 7th grade, I truly figured I would make the NBA because I was better at basketball than my friends. I told everyone I'd be like a 9th man kind of guy. Matt Bonner perhaps. Middle School crushed that dream. I’m not so old, but it’s been about 20 years of obsessive NBA fandom. From an early love of the 2000 New York Knicks, to an obsession with Gilbert Arenas, and nerding out over everything from Marc Gasol pick and roll defense to LeBron James handshakes, this has been my life.
I’m also a big reader. I’ve loved reading since I was a kid as it was one of my parents big priorities (my mother briefly worked for a bookstore). I love Non-Fiction, and am a major proponent of novels (fiction is generally not nearly emphasized properly around the world these days. Bring Back Fiction). When I was younger I wrote the first two pages of a novel about Latrell Sprewell saving the world by choking out a bad guy. In my book, he
was losing air or something. It was an objectively dumb idea. I got bored of writing it after like 2 pages. Turns out I hate writing. Though I still have an idea for an anthropomorphized Toaster that toasts people alive and yells hibachi. If anyone wants to run with that, feel free.
As you can imagine, I’ve read quite a few books about basketball in my day. Novels, Biographies, Topic specific pieces, exposes. Even a random Jordan hit piece or two. I wanted to share my love for basketball books combined with my obsession with ranking shit, so I am making this post to give a quick ranking of my favorite basketball books in 3 separate categories that I find particularly compelling. If you are of any age and want to read some great books, you can use this as a good place to start.
I’m going to make 3 short lists.
*Topic Specific Books*. The books will pick a subject and delve into it. Think
The Dream Team. These will be judged on topic, writing, story, interesting info, and the level of new information we got in the book.
*Young Adult Novels* I adore young adult novels AND I’ve re read most of them since my initial reading. So for all the 10-14 year olds on here, these books are amazing and can help you get into reading if that’s something you’re struggling with. And if the book is on this list, it means I think it holds up and adults/pseudo-adults/folks masquerading as adults will enjoy reading it as well.
*More General Basketball Books* Think
The Book of Basketball. This category will be about more foundational books that don’t cover any singular topic.
One category I did not include here that is really prevalent in the basketball book world: Books about coaching, both technical and abstract. There’s tons of good ones, but it’s just not my forte so I’m passing on it. I've done a bit of (INSANELY LOW LEVEL) coaching and a couple of these were fascinating for that, but a bit less generally interesting.
Reminder: I’ve read a bunch of books, but also I haven’t read a bunch of books, and am excited for folks to comment on this with disagreements and favorites that I haven’t read! You’ll never read them all.
**Last disclaimer: I’m a person. I have bias. There are authors I gravitate to because I love their style who are disproportionately represented here. Just wanted to name it. Looking at you Jack McCallum and John Feinstein.**
**THE FIVE BEST YOUNG ADULT NOVELS ABOUT BASKETBALL:**
Honorable Mentions:
Summer Ball- Mike Lupica,
On the Devil's Court - Carl Deuker - Hoop City - Scott Blumenthal
This novel is the one with the youngest targeted audience on this list. It follows Tony and Mike Hope, two brothers from Harlem, who play point guard and shooting guard and have plans to go to college, and make the NBA. Everything changes when a shooting at a party paralyzes Mike from the waist down. The story follows Tony’s journey as he tries to make the NBA and his struggle with his brother’s tragedy and making his mother proud. Absolutely excellent spotlight on street ball and the many parks in NYC that are hotbeds of the game. The author is excellent at touching on some really serious emotions of imposter syndrome, disability, and adversity. Not to mention violence.
- The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian - Sherman Alexie
This is the only one of this list that isn’t strictly a basketball book, but wow it’s really damn good. It’s by Indigenous American author Sherman Alexie about a high schooler who lives on a reservation, and instead of going to the local high school, he attends the off-reservation rival public school. He ends up making the varsity basketball team. It’s an excellent spotlight on Indigenous reservations, modern Native American life and its intersection with basketball. This is a beautiful display of representation and a strong story. I’d recommend it for your high school students/middle schoolers as the beginning age boundary.
- Slam - Walter Dean Myers
Walter Dean Myers could’ve had like 5 books on this list but this is, in my opinion, his best. It follows a high school player named Greg "Slam" Harris, and his best friend Ice, and explores basketball, blackness, race and systemic racism, New York city diversity programs packaged in an excellent high school story that questioned our conceptions of talent and the racially charged nature of the criticism’s around showboating. It also does a phenomenal job of asking where friendships need to draw a line, drugs, personal life and personal expression. Also this book celebrates dunking for a bunch of it, which is always a plus in my book (pun unintended but welcomed).
- The Last Shot - John Feinstein
Feinstein’s first young adult novel was a hit. It follows two young teen aspiring basketball journalists who win a trip to the Final Four, and stumble upon the story of a century. The characters are incredibly endearing, if a bit cheesy, and Feinstein gets the ok from a myriad of real figures, from the “hated” Coach K, to Tony Kornheiser, to a myriad of others to be featured as characters in the book. He pokes fun at all of them. Seriously, there's like, a whole scene where Tony Kornheiser is demanding a hotel suite and asking the bellhop “Do you know who I am??” This book secretly teaches the reader a hell of a lot of college basketball history, packaged in a terrific young adult thriller, and engages with gambling and extortion. It helps ask the question, what part of this is actually amateur?
- Travel Team- Mike Lupica
The Gold Standard. One of Lupica’s two best young adult sports books (
Heat I can’t recommend enough),
Travel Team follows young, undersized point guard Danny Walker, son of an alcoholic ex-NBA father, and an awesome single mother, and his friends and bully’s. The characters are middle schoolers, and are the overwhelming strength of this book that is great for 5th graders and up, but honestly is excellent at all ages. I read it all in a day this past weekend. The characters, both protagonists and antagonists are beautifully written, and the story is heart warming while having real mistakes and high stakes. If you’ve ever rooted for the lovable underdog, this is for you.
**THE 7 BEST TOPIC SPECIFIC BOOKS ABOUT BASKETBALL - Non Fiction**
Honorable Mentions:
7 Seconds or Less - Jack McCallum. (A year with the 05/06 Suns.)
The Legends Club - John Feinstein (A Look at the Rivalry between Dean Smith, Jimmy V, and Coach K and the Three North Carolina Powerhouses)
A Season on the Brink- John Feinstein (Following Bob Knight and the 85/86 Hoosiers)
Tuff Juice: My Journey from the Streets to the NBA -Caron Butler and Steve Springer (Caron’s autobiography. If you don’t know his story, it’s... wild.)
- Shooting Stars - Buzz Bissinger and LeBron James
This book isn’t quite as good as the others, but holy hell is it fascinating in content. The book, which functions as a LeBron Biography follows him from birth until he arrived in the NBA. LeBron, who's entire life and career is pretty much Oscar bait, gives insight after insight. The book focused in particular on his high school years
(The movie, More than a Game was based on this. And, unrelated, The Drake song Forever’s music video which was for this movie was based on that book as well. Also, go watch the music video for Forever, because 1. It’s an amazing song where 4 elite rappers absolutely snap, particularly Eminem who had been criticized for not going on posse tracks with other elite rappers, and came back from the dead to steal the show, and 2. LeBron is playing online poker at the beginning of the video. I’m still not sure why and it makes me laugh every time. Is the implication that he has enough money to play online poker? Is that an effective flex? What's happening here??) and his Saint Vincent Saint Mary squad. Everyone should read the chapter on LeBron’s decision to spurn the typical high school choice and go with his childhood friends to the nearby private school. It’s absolutely fascinating as it foreshadows his move to the Heat which happened a year after this book's release. The thought process can be clearly traced to this moment. Buzz Bissinger, author of Friday Night Lights, does a fantastic job.
- Last Dance: Behind the Scenes at the Final Four - Feinstein
An absolutely wonderful deep dive into the Final Four and March Madness, it’s history, it’s present, endless stories and anecdotes you haven’t heard, excellent access, and a phenomenal scatterbrained style typical of Feinstein. You want to learn about the NCAA Tournament? This is the book for you. This book was released in 2005, when Marvin Williams put back such a sick dunk that the PG needy Hawks were like, "Nah who needs Deron Williams or Chris Paul, this dude's a monster". But more notably, the next years tournament is the George Mason year, and the "Afterward" of the book is a lovely short spotlight on Mason's run which is still so damn magical.
- Hoop Dreams - Ben Javorsky
The book version of the famous documentary, it follows two high end Chicago Area high school prospects in Will Gates and Arthur Agee as they navigate going to a school outside the inner city where they grow up, and the challenges and toxicity facing high end high school basketball recruits. There’s also one insanely fascinating passage about teen pregnancy, which is so damn interesting that I won't spoil for you. This story is crazy famous and worthwhile reading for anyone with interest in high school basketball.
- The Jordan Rules - Sam Smith
If you watched The Last Dance, which I hope you did, you know about this expose/hit piece that rocked the basketball world, and many say pushed Jordan away from the media for good in terms of a lack of trust. I’ll leave it at that since this one is famous as well, and is on this list as much for importance as it is for quality. But that 90-91 Bulls season is a damn whirlwind.
- When the Game was Ours - Jackie MacMullan
Get to know Larry Bird and Magic Johnson and their rivalry like you never have before. Their battles, friendship, stories and anecdotes are beautiful and written in such an absolutely engrossing manner. It’s impossible to put it down and makes you fall in love with the two of them all over again. Plus, if you don’t already know, Larry Bird is the number one player of all time in the category of “How cool are the stories opponents and teammates tell about him, because Christ, that dude is so damn good and talks so much shit.”
- Let Me Tell You a Story - Feinstein
John Feinstein gets invited to weekly lunches with Red Auerbach and the man tells stories about Auerbach and the Boston Celtics that are like nothing you’ve ever heard before. When you read it, you feel like you’re sitting in the room with Red and you never want to leave. It’s like if you were sitting with your grandfather and just let him go off on every topic imaginable, except your grandfather was the foundational coach at the NBA. A highlight is his telling of the Bill Russell trade.
- The Dream Team- Jack McCallum
What else? Endless anecdotes, endless drama, endless characters. Jack gets Jordan, Charles, and the rest of them absolutely perfectly. The Dream Team was larger than life, and Jack waited to write this book until he was able to secure interviews from everyone needed, including Bird who rarely gives interviews like these. An extraordinary collection of stories and some of the best writing about the famous greatest game ever played, the scrimmage in the days before the Olympics began. Also, Charles Barkley’s chapter is incredible, both stories wise, as well as the reverence the other players had for prime chuck.
**THE THREE BEST BASKETBALL BIG PICTURE BOOKS**
Honorable Mention:
Basketball (and Other Things)- Shea Serrano. He’s the most entertaining writer in the business, the illustration by Arturro Torres is exceptional and the book is absolute nonsense.
- Sacred Hoops: Spiritual Lessons of a Hardwood Warrior - by Hugh Delehanty and Phil Jackson
I like to say it’s barely a basketball book in any way. It’s Phil Jackson, intentionality and a way of life. Phil waxes on mindfulness and meaning, while drawing on his experience as maybe the most successful basketball coach in the history of the game. He also manages to only seem like, kind of pretentious which is a huge win for Phil. Some really incredible insight on life from Phil. It’s about basketball and about coaching, but it’s really about life.
- The Book of Basketball - Bill Simmons
Maybe a controversial pick, but once upon a time, Bill Simmons really did follow basketball. Sure he’s an annoying homer, but he’s a damn good writer, an entertaining personality, and this book boils down to every discussion you’ve ever had with your friends about basketball given the attention they deserve. It’s extremely influential (even if some of it hasn’t aged so well) and absolutely a fantastic read. The Hall of Fame pyramid concept has stood the test of time. And if you can get over the fact that he hates Wilt Chamberlain, this book can be an extraordinary transition for casual fans who want to take it to the next level, or nerds wanting to learn more.
- FreeDarko Presents: The Macrophenomenal Pro Basketball Almanac: Styles, Stats, and Stars in Today's Game
This book is the foundation of what I believe about basketball. Written in 2008, and derived from the Basketball internet nerd Famous FreeDarko blog, it celebrated players uniqueness, argued that winning isn’t the only thing that matter, treasured style, and blended pop culture and informal writing into basketball paving the way for the Zach Lowe’s and Shea Serrano’s that have come since.
I can’t say enough about this book. If you believe that the NBA is more than stats, players, winning, but is instead all of those things combined with humanity, style, beauty, drama, hilarity, and a cast of characters that rivals any other institution on earth, this book should be required reading.
Alright,
That’s all I got. I wish I could’ve written about 30 more books that I had to leave out. I’m sorry for forcing John Feinstein and Jack McCallum on you. Hopefully you’ve found at least one book that you are going to check out from your local library (SUPPORT LIBRARIES!).
And would love to hear everyone else’s favorites as well!

Small lobbies, large lobbies and "player interaction"
There is a lot of discussion right now in this sub about small lobbies and large lobbies. I just wanted to throw my 2 cents to the matter, because it is obviously something that affects everybody in the community when we talk about how we experience the game.
First of all: I enjoyed GTAO back in the day, I enjoy PVP games and I love player interaction in videogames. BUT.
These last days I've had the time of my life in Red Dead Online. The game has been much more enjoyable than ever, for many reasons:
-Legendary animals spawning constantly. When the update was released, I literally couldn't find a single one while playing the whole Saturday. Now, they appear in a more organic way, forcing you to deviate from the path and take your time to find them. It makes the game feel more alive.
-NPCs random encounters. I can travel from Annesburgh to Saint Denis knowing that I will find at least 4 or 5 NPCs by the road in my way there: asking for money, trying to steal my horse, asking for a fotograph, being kidnapped... The journey doesn't feel empty. Again, the game feels more alive.
-Less DC. This is a tough one, because I heard that many people are still experiencing connection problems. Once Moonshiners was released, I literally couldn't play more than 10 min. When Frontier Pursuits was released, couldn't make a single bounty hunter job without getting DCed after delivering the target. Playing in small lobbies, I have only been disconnected once in a whole day playing the game (and my internet is pure crap).
-No griefing. I've had a great time with the few people I encountered. Drinking in the tabern, waving, playing dumb, helping with some of their missions. Not a single toxic behaviour in the session.
-Framerate. I couldn't remember the last time I walked around Blackwater and Saint Denis without FPS issues on PS4. I had the time of my life.
I've seen lots of posts like this one, recently, with lots of comments against them. And I've seen a curious pattern on them. The most used arguments against small lobbies are the following:
-"Lack of player interaction". Many people miss player interaction in RDO, so they prefer large lobbies. "Player interaction" is a cool sounding expression for an online. Sadly, it means nothing in RDO. "Player interaction" would be to throw money to other players just for fun (like many other MMOs); to pass ammo and medicine to your gang during a shootout; to play instruments in free roam; to play chess or five finger fillet in the camp while waiting for Cripps to prepare the delivery; to play poker in the Moonshine bar; to lend cigarettes, to fix another players wagon's wheel. "Player interaction" would be ANYTHING that really makes two players interact. But almost the only way you "truly interact" in this game is killing them. Nothing wrong with it: it just seems hypocritical AF to care about "player interaction", when it is almost non-existant in this game.
-"It's an online game, there has to be PVP. If you don't like it, play something else". Back in Beta launch, there was nothing to do at all, just a bunch of shootouts here and there, and the occasional player that lassoed you across the Heartlands laughing on the mic. They started introducing things: stranger missions, Frontier Pursuits, Moonshiner. All the stuff we know. There are many things to do right now... and there are still griefers. In fact, now it's worse than before: many players are being even more toxic in large lobbies, because it seems that they missed "player interaction" so much during the small lobbies period. There are tons of exclusively PVP content in the game, but they keep moaning whenever you remove the possibility of griefing a PVE player.
-"The world feels empty", In the early days, RDO's world seem a lot emptier than the SP. There were no encounters, no random missions, no strangers, nothing to do at all. There are still a few things I would like to see in Online to give the full immersive experience RDO deserves (baths, hotel rooms, passenger trains, gunpoint robbery, greet/antagonize NPCs, horse fence...), but right now this is closest we got to the SP mode. The game is more alive than ever and full of things to do... things that, apparently, don't work when the game is full of players. Things that appear on the map constantly in small lobbies. On paper, it seems that the world is emptier when it is full of players.
The perfect balance would be to have all those random events that blow life into the game and the possibility to play with every player. But this is not the reality.
I know there are a lot of players that genuinely want to play with other people in a positive way. But the biggest amount of people complaining about small lobbies are people who will complain whatever the state of the game is. They claim "Player interaction" to kill other players when they are delivering a supply wagon. They complain about the "world being empty", but they constantly drive PVE players away with their behaviour. They already have PVP modes that don't satisfy them, because it is funnier to bully a player who is playing Naturalist and minding his/her own business than fighting a player that shoots back.
I don't want to rant against PVP players, because I love PVP games as much as every one. But I'm so tired of this childish attitude towards PVE players in a big amount of videogames I played. RDO has a fantastic community (despite many people say), a great roleplaying potential and the perfect worldbuilding to become one of the best online experience ever. Accept the fact that this is not a Wild West Skin for GTAO and embrace the full potential of a PVE/PVP experience, stop griefing in a game that is not focused on casual free roam PVP and (this one is for you, Rockstar) let people play in private or solo lobbies. GTAO was a griefing mess and it still had private lobbies.
TL;DR: Most people complaining about small lobbies usually want large lobbies to grief. Those players claim to be concerned about the future of the online experience, but they are the embodiment of what is restraining RDO to achieve its full online potential.

I am in a healthy marriage, so why am I always daydreaming of being alone?
My wife and I are the same age [36] and have been married for 6 years and dated for 2 years before that. I was my wife's first real boyfriend and lover while I had a handful of relationships before meeting her. My past relationships were difficult to maintain for various reasons and admittedly I was not mature enough to handle them. I would either let my emotions get the best of me or I would pretend to be someone I wasn't just so I could fit the mold. Before I met my now wife, I told myself that I would only be with someone if I were 100% honest with myself and just let me be my weird self for once. That ended up working out great. I was finally in a relationship where I was truly myself. Of course, in any relationship you have to make sacrifices and I understand that. But as time goes on I find myself lacking any desire to endulge myself in my hobbies. I mean, I still desire to do them, but I just feel guilty about spending time away from my wife, or she makes me feel guilty for the same reason. For example - I used to enjoy writing and I felt like I was really good at it, but it requires me to be isolated with my thoughts before I can begin. I haven't written anything since I have been with her because I can't really have that isolation that I need. A few months ago I tried to write again. I just opened up WordPad on my computer and started writing my thoughts. I couldn't get 2 sentences written down before my wife started asking me what I was doing and what I was writing. I know that it seems petty and she was just curious about what I was doing, but I couldn't write after that. I had to stop and talk to her, which I did. I used to play music on a bass guitar. I would sit in my room and listen to music and try to play the music back on my bass, but I haven't played since being married. I used to be a big pc gamer. This hobby I admit I needed to dial down since that's all I really did when I was single in my 20s, but I have just about completely stopped since getting married. I do still play games, but it is for very short amounts of time and becoming less frequent as time goes by. Even when I do sit down and try to enjoy the game, I start feeling guilty because I know my wife is in the other room just doing nothing by herself.
I know most people will say that I just need to have a discussion with her about having personal time, and we have actually come up with a compromise. Every Friday night I will get together virtually with a group of my friends online and we play poker together through virtual reality. It's the one night of the week where I can close my door and not worry about my wife and just enjoy myself. It's also the one night a week I endulge myself with alcohol. The agreement was that we would spend Saturdays together doing whatever she wanted. Sounds like everything should be fine now, right? So then why do I always daydream about coming home to an empty house? I love my wife and we have very little to argue about. She is very sweet and caring, and she will admit to me when she notices when I am doing much more around the house than she is doing. She can tell when I get annoyed, but I can never tell her I'm annoyed because I don't feel she deserves that conversation and guilt. I want to give her an easy life, even if that puts my feelings 2nd. I just think that is what a good husband does.
We don't have kids, which makes things less complicated. Our love life has completely stalled as well, which could be a factor in all of this. I don't personally find it a big issue, but it would be nice if she tried to spice things up in the bedroom, but she was never really a sexual person to begin with. When we first dated, our sex life was pretty good. I feel that she was doing it more for me rather than for her because once we got married the sex dropped almost completely. I admit, I don't really care about sex as much as the normal person does. It's not that I don't like it, but I can take care of myself with little effort. So when she started resisting my attempts more frequently, I just stopped trying. She never really put up a fight about it, but it has now gotten to the point where we have sex maybe 2 times a year. Once this year is over, we will have only had sex once. Still, I believe that we have a healthy marriage. We don't fight or argue. We always try to make each other feel better. I tell her how beautiful she looks everyday and she tells me how handsome I am. We laugh together and make jokes at other people's expense in private. Out of all the relationships I've been in, she has been the most compatible with me by far.
So why I have these fantasies of being alone so often? Am I not wired for being married? I read everyday about other people's problems with their significant other and in comparison I should feel blessed. I don't hate my wife - actually completely opposite. I love her and want to give her a happy life. I care about her more than myself, but I feel that if I continue to feel this way then I will explode over nothing and ruin a perfectly healthy marriage.

A tale of scumbaggery
Hello disgruntled people of Reddit. You're all waiting for rdro to be playable again, so sit back and let me spin you a tale.
This morning I linked up with a random from this sub to start a private lobby (poker table) and we played in that lobby all day, no issues. Throughout the day, i found 9 total legendary animals. Several of them i didnt need, and I would message him to tell him the location where he and his buddies could find me standing over it, sedated. From there they would take samples or one of them would skin it, whatever. At one point, another random dude (we made a private lobby a few days earlier) messages me asking for an invite, but since theres no more room in the lobby, I tell him I'll get him later.
Couple hours go by, and it's just me left, and the dude comes knocking again. I tell him I forgot and invite him to the session. I feel bad for not inviting him sooner so I wait for him to spawn in and drop the 3 star grizzly pelt that was on my horse, so he can sell it to Gus for a coat. As soon as he picks it up, he gets disconnected. I make sure he gets back into the lobby and then let him chill in my posse for a bit to make sure the lobby sticks and he doesnt get disconnected again. He asks if he can invite a buddy to the session. Fine with me.
Now it gets juicy.
10 or so minutes go by and I head down to Hennigans Stead to look for the new Red Streak coyote. When i get there, there is a moonshine still mission down inside the canyon, so I go down to take care of it because legendary animals dont spawn when other random events are in the vicinity (NOT confirmed but this has been my experience so far). As I'm finishing that up, I see the two blue dots on the map. Its him and his buddy on the cliffside looking down on me. No worries.
All that's left is to blow up the still, so I fan a few rounds into it and up it goes. The moment that the still mission completes? You guessed it. That tasty yellow question mark appears up behind ol boy. He doesnt move because he hasn't seen the blip on the radar yet (I spawned the animal in so I get the first blip) and I move up out of the canyon towards it.
As I get to it, I see he has started moving in but I'm not even worried about it. The dude has been nothing but cool so far. I get my camera out and snap a picture of the coyote. As soon as I take my eye out of the lens, he is charging in on horseback, rifle in hand, shooting it.
At first I'm not concerned. Hes just sedating it, right? Nope. That's a bolt action in his hand and hes shooting to kill. He leaves me to deal with all the extra aggressive coyotes since I'm on foot, so I chase him down.
I'm running behind his horse as he shoots it, and I'm debating whether or not to just headshot him and his buddy, but I dont. I never shoot people in this game, and neither of them have actually attacked me so i cant bring myself to kill them.
He kills the coyote. Other buddy jumps off the back of his horse and looks at me, sawed off in hand. The dude doesnt even skin the coyote, he just puts the whole thing on his horse and books it. I'm just standing there, kind of stunned tbh.
A minute or so goes by and I message him.
"We could have all 3 gotten our samples. Wtf" (theres only one skin so we might as all get a sample instead)
He apologizes, saying he didnt know and that he wanted the skin for the coat.
I tell him that was a dick move.
He says he apologized but that he had been waiting there for it anyways. (That's not how legendaries work. You cant sit in the same spot, you have to move or it will never spawn.)
10 minutes or so go by but I'm still annoyed, and I tell him. I say I dont buy his story since he didnt even take a picture, he just blasted it and nicked the whole carcass because he was nervous that I would fuck with him while he was skinning it.
He says he doesnt take pictures of animals, and that he did nothing wrong. The whole issue is evidently lost on him.
I tell him again that it was a total dick move but I'm willing to forget about it.
Another 15 minutes go by and I'm just sitting in camp now, waiting. (This isnt confirmed but I'm 99% certain that each player can only spawn a legendary animal once per in-game day, or about 45 minutes. Some have evidence to the contrary but with 30+ legendary encounters, that's been my experience).
My trader gets to 100 goods and since trader is giving extra fat money this week, I decide to extend an olive branch to this guy and invite him and his buddy to a posse. He doesnt join until I message him, saying that he was afk. I start the long distance delivery and leave them to do their own thing (its just us in the lobby after all, so theres no danger.)
About halfway through, a message pings. has killed the Legendary Zizi Beaver. I look at the map. I'm thinking to myself that perhaps, after that little fiasco, he is going to bring the whole beaver to me so I can skin it, as his own sort of peace offering for fucking me over. (I already have everything from it so I would have declined, but if you have even the slightest amount of decency in your body, this is the OBVIOUS play)
Nah. They go straight to gus.
Ok. Fine. Nbd. They found that legendary so its theirs. (And I didnt need it anyways). I complete the sell mission and net myself 940 buckerinos so that means they get 470 each. Not bad.
10 more minutes go by. Not a peep.
At this point I'm pissed. So I let him know it.
I tell him that I just gave him free money after he stole from me and he cant even say thanks? Gtfo my friends list.
He retorts, claiming that I'm a child. The rest of the conversation devolves into what you might expect, with me telling him how selfish he is (and explaining how I hooked him up and he basically shit on my lap) and him continually claiming I'm childish. I'm trying to explain to him that he robbed me but he doesnt care. After all, he can take what he wants right?
So thays pretty much it. A few hours ago now but since I'm typing this whole thing out, im obviously still pissed.
Thing is, though. Hes right. I am childish. Its naive of me to think that anyone will appreciate or respect acts of altruism, especially in such an environment as an online video game. But guess what? I'm still gonna do my best to hook people up. I'm still gonna mind my own business in defensive mode and not shoot random people. I'm still gonna give my 3 star carcasses to random people I ride by. Because I'm childish and I like to be nice to people.
So fuck you, guy.
Hopefully you enjoyed this little story and it prevented you from trying to rejoin another lobby just to be disconnected. If you want to do the poker glitch, here it is.
Given the unstable servers that everyone is getting booted from, it changes the glitch slightly. Keep in mind that you need 1 friend with a mic.
You can try to get lucky and keep joining free roams until you get a stable lobby. They DO still exist. Another thing you can do is join someone else who has been playing for a while (friends list, red dead community, or Join a Posse from the menu) since they are likely in a stable lobby if they've been on for a minute.
Barring this, join a shootout series from the login menu. It should work. When it loads up, open the online menu (left on the Dpad for ps4) and change your characters appearance. It will load up. Chill in this menu for a minute or two and then back out (it will cost you no gold).
You should now be in a solo lobby (not always, may take a few tries) but it is not a long lasting one. It should be stable enough for you to get to a poker table and host a private game. Now, invite your friend with the mic. Keep in mind that he has to be coming from a stable session in order for this to work. This means he has to do the same exact thing as you, minus going to the poker table to host the game.
Before he accepts it, hold circle to get to the blackout screen that asks if you are sure you want to exit. Now have him accept the invite. At the bottom of his screen, it will say "Processing Invite.." have him tell you as soon as he sees those words. The moment he tells you, exit the poker game.
If it worked, he will be in the private lobby. All he has to do now is invite you to the session and you two are golden. You can have a max of 6 people in this lobby (since it's a poker game lobby).
If it doesnt work, it is 1 of 2 reasons. Reason 1 is that your buddy's session was unstable when he left. It's possible that if you take too much time between each step, you will be put into an unstable free roam. So be punctual and coordinated. Reason 2 is simply that you were too slow to back out of the poker game and it done fucked it up.
Ask what you will, but I believe that covers everything.

Gambling
As this is a Casino-centric update, there's plenty of ways to gamble away your hard-grinded money.
The gambling in this game centers around a new form of currency, called Chips. These chips are pretty much like real-world gambling chips, with a one-to-one dollar value, except you keep your chips when you leave the casino. Chips are an actual currency in GTA Online, as they can be used to purchase exclusive items from a shop inside the casino, along with being used to bet with when playing the Gambling Games, listed below
- Slot Machines: There's plenty of options to choose from, but they all perform the same way. Spend some chips, and let the RNG decide whether or not you earn anything from it.
- Blackjack: Casino style blackjack with up to four simultaneous players, all of which play against the dealer. Anyone who beats the dealer individually wins, anyone who the dealer beats individually loses, and if the dealer gets Blackjack (an Ace and 10/face-card), everyone immediately loses. Assuming your initial hand isn't a Blackjack, you have the option of doubling-down, which doubles your initial bet with the caveat of only being able to hit once.
- Poker: Three-card poker. You make your bets, check your hand, and similar to Blackjack, each player wins if their hand is better than the dealer's, and the dealer beats whoever has a worse hand than him. While there is no option to double-down, how much you win does depend on how good of a hand you have. The better your hand, the more you win. Also, while you can fold your hand, you lose your initial bet anyway.
- Horse Racing: Pretty much standard horse racing bettering. You choose a horse, you put your money down, and if you bet correctly, you get double the amount you bet in return. Otherwise, you just lose the amount you bet.
To gain more chips, there is a counter inside the casino where you can buy them, however you are limited in how many you can buy per day (real-world 24 hours). As standard, you can buy a maximum of 20,000 chips per day, but if you own a penthouse of any tier, you can buy up to 50,000 chips per day. Chips can also be traded in for money, but there does not appear to be a limit on this. No matter how many chips you win from gambling, it appears that you can trade them all in at once for the equivalent dollar value.
Lastly, there is the Wheel. It's a roulette wheel that you can only spin once per day, which costs $500 per spin. There are twenty reward slots, and since some rewards are in multiple slots, they have greater chances of being selected. The biggest note about this wheel however is that there is one slot in which you can win a free car! What makes this so significant is that since the car takes a 1/20 slot on the wheel, that means you still have a 5% chance of winning a free high-value vehicle! Compared to most online games, that's pretty much the most generous RNG you can get.

FAQ
Are there any differences between the penthouses
For once, yes! Well, technically... they're the same basic property layout, but each option gives you different addon options.
- The Cash Pad: The basic Penthouse with no property addons available . You cannot purchase a garage, extra bedroom, lounge, etc. with the Cash Pad. You can, however, purchase penthouse customizations (colour and wall patterns).
- The Party Penthouse: Gives you certain of the addon options: the main Penthouse, the Extra Bedroom, the Lounge Area, the Spa, and the Bar and Party Hub. You are locked to these options, no more, no less.
- The High Roller: Gives you all of the property addons as standard, and the most expensive penthouse customization options... this means that you cannot choose your own colour and wall patterns with this version.
- The "Design Your Own": ...What should be the standard option. It gives you the basic penthouse and allows you to choose which addons and customizations you want, with an extra cost for each one, of course. Just get this one. You can also renovate this option later, allowing you to purchase more addons and change your customizations later.
What do the Penthouse Addons do?
- Lounge Area: Allows you to purchase the other Penthouse Addons (except for the Extra Bedroom and Garage, which are the only items addons that can be purchased without a Lounge).
- Media Room: You know the cinemas around Los Santos? The ones that play a few 5 minute animated films on repeat? That, but in a Penthouse.
- Spa: Gives you access to a hot tub and a Personal Stylist. The Stylist's services are the same as the ones spread around Los Santos (hair, contacts, and make up), but they're all free.
- Bar and Party Hub: Allows you to consume drinks that instantly intoxicate your character, along with access to special arcade games that aren't available anywhere else in the game.
- Private Dealer: Allows you to play gambling games in your penthouse.
- Office: Adds a standard computer, a Gun Locker, and a money vault (don't get excited, it's just aesthetic).
- Extra Bedroom: Bedrooms in owned properties in GTA Online are used as spawn points, so why can you pay to have an extra one? Because you can now allow a friend of yours to claim it! The Extra Bedroom allows a friend of yours to use your penthouse as a spawn apparently, though the exact implementation of this is not completely clear.
- Garage: Access to the Penthouse's garage bay.
How do I get the armored car?
- To recieve the Enus Paragon R (Armoured), you have to complete the Diamond Casino's mission series, which you must own a penthouse to access. Once of the missions are complete, you'll be given the vehicle for free! But remember, it's uninsured and you only get it once, so immediately go into passive mode and take it to the nearest Los Santos Customs to insure it, or else you could lose the vehicle permanently.
Passive Mode
Good news, passive mode has been fixed!
- Passive Mode can now no longer be active when using a weaponized vehicle
- A Passive Mode cooldown of 2 minutes is now in place for players who have just killed another player
- Players now must wait 5 minutes before they can activate Passive Mode again after disabling it
- Players now must wait 30 seconds before they can disable Passive Mode after activating it
These changes make is so that grievers can no longer abuse passive mode, or at least no where near as easily. If you start to get the upper-hand on a griefer and destroy whatever death-machine they're using to troll you, or if you confront them in a death-machine of your own, they can't abuse Passive Mode to try to get the upper-hand on you!
Solo Session
Check the Mega Guide for ways to push yourself into a public Online session with no one else in it. Keep in mind that some missions and abilities are unavailable if there's no one else with you though!
Bugs and Glitches
- Apparently on PS4 and Xbox One, you must have full size of GTA V available to download the update, so if you have less than ~60GB free, you may have trouble downloading the update. This does not mean that the entire game is re-downloaded, it just means that the update may not download if you don't have that much space available.

- Cody notes Keith once let @ScottSteiner walk a tiger to the ring in WCW so he’s not allowed to turn down ideas.
